When I think of Deaf education and general education I think...

that they can be one in the same. I think that it is important for Deaf students to have the knowledge that general education provides because it gives background knowledge that will be useful later in their life. However, I think that Deaf history, sign language, etc. could be incorporated into general education so that they still have that knowledge as well.

  1. I really like what you had to say about Deaf education and general education being able to be one in the same, I think that we often overlook that as being true. We tend to think that a student has to be one to the other, never have both, which is not true. Not everything has to be cut and dry, all one thing or the other. You can allow students to have the best of both worlds, if it works for them.

  2. I agree. I think that it is important for Deaf students to the same thing as hearing students because it would be beneficial to them. But I also think that hearing students should learn about Deaf History and Sign Language because it would make them more aware of Deaf Culture.

  4. I agree with what everyone has said I really liked how you said Deaf education could be more incorporated in general education. In most schools ASL is not even an option of a foreign language class to take. I think if we taught the general public about the Deaf culture just like we learn about other cultures around the world, students would have a better understanding of the world as a whole, and to understand that deaf people are just as capable to doing anything a hearing person is able to do.

  5. I agree that deaf education and general education should have the same knowledge to gain the background experience for the students futures. As discussed multiple times in class background experience is key for a child to be able to understand what they are learning.
