Danielle Fields - Introductions

Hi everyone! So I chose this picture for a number of reasons. I have a degree in English Teaching, so I'm kind of a nerd and I love books and literature and all that stuff. I took this picture in Philadelphia when I went to visit the Edgar Allan Poe house. This is painted on a wall of a building across the street from his house. Totally geeked out when I went to visit it, still get pretty geeky about it, but that's just who I am. I am currently seeking a degree in communication disorders with the hope to become a speech pathologist. I am taking this class because I fell in love with ASL when I took it in college, and the deaf and hard of hearing fascinate me, because my dad has been hard of hearing for my entire life, so it's kind of personal for me.
Looking forward to lots of learning and working with all the people in this class!

  1. Very interesting! How do you think using pictures - like this - could assist some students who may have a communication disorder?

    1. I think pictures can peak interest in things, and it helps give a visual concept of something; something tangible for a learner to grasp. Personally, I need to see something to understand it. If I'm learning math, I need to see an example of a problem. If I'm learning a new skill, I need to see it done. I think that seeing things would definitely be what a student with a communication disorder would need.
